Index linked pensions
Your pension is index-linked to protect it from increases in the cost of living. The increases are paid in April (normally payable with effect from the 1st Monday after 6 April), which is the same date as increases in state social security benefits and based on figures provided by HM Treasury (i.e. CPI). Both types of pension provide valuable benefits, the biggest of which is something called 'index-linking'. This means that your pension income is guaranteed to rise each year so it can keep up with rising prices in the future. A non-indexed pension is a pension income stream that pays the same income amount for the eternity of the income stream. That is, there is no increase in payments over time. A non-indexed pension is subject to inflation risk and losing purchasing power over time due to inflation. When buying a pension annuity you have the option for your future income to increase with inflation (known as 'index-linked'). However, this means a lower starting income, so it's not an easy decision. I have started looking and understand that the pension is index linked and is tied to pensionable pay.
