The following flow charts may be used to diagnose the causes of various trouble codes which may be recorded by the ECM or to verify proper operation of systems. Although many of the following tests may be conducted using a Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM), certain steps or procedures may require use of the Tech1® scan tool (a specialized GM tester) or an equivalent scan/testing tool. 1. First identify the purpose of the process. 2. Then identify the people or groups involved in the process. Put one role per post-it note and place them across the top of the chart pad. 3. Work through the steps in the process flow, writing each step on a post-it note and placing it on the chart pad. Move them around as necessary to reflect the process. Complex programs are often represented with flowcharts. Each node of the chart represents an object or other discrete part of a program. They are especially useful for people new to a project, and project managers often update them and explore different ways of tying components together.
